Community.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been involved in community service. When I was growing up, my church would raise money for shelters and have food drives during the holidays for the less fortunate. When I went to college, I joined Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Incorporated because their values surrounding service and activism were in line with my own core values. Even while in graduate school, I volunteered in Peru for the summer teaching English and helping out at a local daycare. Whenever I travel, I try to visit a shelter, an orphanage, or community center that…

We are here.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to be exact.  Yesterday, we spent most of the day on a boat. (More on that experience later) As a result, we were completely exhausted. But we had to wake up at 4am to ride over an hour back to the airport to catch our 8am flight here.  TI-RED! And the transition here was anything but smooth. After waiting over an hour in line for immigration, we had to take a bus for an hour into the city and then a shuttle to our airport. After arriving here we waited in the lobby for almost an…

On being present.

The boy and I are in Thailand right now for winter vacation. We’ve spent the last two days waking with no alarm, relaxing by the pool, and basking in the warmth of the sun while a sea breeze caresses our faces.  But this vacation isn’t easy for me. The boy is 9.

This will forever be my favorite photo of us. Today, the boy turns 9. This is also my 9th anniversary of being his mother. It hasn’t been an easy road, but I’m glad I’m on it with him. He has taught me so much about myself, about how to be more patient (a lesson I am still learning). This year traveling with him has taught me so much about myself as a person and as a mother. Learning that there is so much more I need to learn and grow and provide him. So much more that I want…

Thanksgiving in Korea

Yea, I know. I’m extremely late with this post. But when we got back, things were a bit hectic at work. As we approach our holiday vacation this weekend (for 3 WEEKS!!!), I’m reflecting on Thanksgiving. Moreso, trying not to have a repeat of what a disaster it was. I know, according to my Facebook and Instagram feeds, you would never know. But the first 24 hours in Seoul were a bit crazy. Let me fill you in: First let me say, I’m used to American banks and the conveinece of letting them know when you will be out of…
